Intern Program Seminar & Practicums
“Courses” in Reach do not resemble traditional college classroom style courses. Instead, each of the seminar & practicums described below combine small group seminars, job-embedded application, one-on-one or small group coaching, online work and collaboration, and gathering evidence of practice.
Seminars are taken sequentially, with participating teachers typically focusing on one topic for approximately a month before moving on to the next topic. Additionally, the seminars spiral, returning to similar themes repeatedly, each time with greater depth and a different perspective.
All of the program assignments are designed to be directly applied in the classroom and are designed to prepare Intern Teacher for successful completion of the Teaching Performance Assessments.
Typically, the seminars follow the following patterns:
Summer Pre-service:
Pre-service requirements total 160 hours and combines three courses. The pre-service begins in phases and includes:
•One-on-one coaching: approximately 5 hours
•Online collaboration & preparation: approximately 40 hours
•Student Teaching: 45 hours (may be waived based on prior field experience)
•Summer Institute & Retreat: 6 days (residential)
•Final Preparation & Completions: approximately 10 hours
Regular Semester Seminars & Practicums:
•3 Units = 40 hours of instruction: 20 hours of online instruction and collaboration, 6 hours of seminar, 10 hours of Practicum (including one-on-one coaching), 4 hours of portfolio preparation
•2 Units = 30 hours of instruction: 15 hours of online instruction and collaboration, 3 hours of seminar, 10 hours of Practicum (including one-on-one coaching), 4 hours of portfolio presentation
•1 Unit = 15 hours seminar, online collaboration, or practicum
